This tag is just Q and A, and I’m tagging Becky over at Coffee, Cocktails and Books, because I haven’t been blogging much lately, and she helped me out so much last summer 🙂
1. Do you have a specific place for reading?
I love to read outside, but Michigan doesn’t allow for that for most of the year. Mostly I read on the couch, in bed before I fall asleep, or in my classroom on our reading days.
2. Bookmarks or random piece of paper?
I have an Owlcrate subscription, so I have a TON of really neat bookmarks, but I still end up using the inside flap of the cover until I get to the point where it’ll slip out. Then I find a bookmark, and then my kid takes it out 150 times until I finish the book. So, a lot of times, actually, it’s just memory and I re-read until I find my spot.
3. Can you just stop anywhere or do you need to finish a chapter?
In a perfect world I finish the chapter. I can remember telling my mom I’d turn off the light “when I finish this chapter”, which actually meant 6 more chapters. Nowadays I can’t get away with finishing a chapter because #momlife.
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
No, I lose all sense of time when I read.
5. Music or TV while reading?
NO WAY. I’ve learned to read over the sound of the TV, but I don’t prefer it.
6. One book at a time or several?
Growing up I thought you could only handle one at a time, that I’d get confused if I tried to read more than one at a time. I’ve since realized I need different books for different moods/times. I like to have a physical book with me at all times, an ebook that I’m reading, and something on my phone to read until I fall asleep at night.
7. Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere?
My favorite place to read is the beach, but I probably only do that a few times a year. I do most all of my reading at home. If I go to a coffee shop or bookstore I end up getting distracted.
8. Read out loud or silently?
OMG I hope I read silently. That could get embarrassing real fast.
9. Do you read ahead or skip pages?
My teaching partner reads the endings first and I think she’s coconuts. I sometimes have to even cover the last page in a chapter so my eyes don’t wander over to any spoilers!
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Totally indifferent on this one, actually.
11. Do you write in your books?
Growing up I would highlight favorite quotes or put a star by them. Most of the books I read nowadays make their way to my classroom, so I don’t do that anymore.
